Texas Classic Bass Club November Tournament on Lake Austin.

The Texas Classic Bass Club November tournament was held Nov 12th 6:00AM to 4:00PM on Lake Austin. This was a draw tournament and I drew one of our club guest at the meeting, Nathan. A series of small fronts rolled through the day before and the day of the tournament which cooled off the air and brought in strong winds the day of the tournament. Even though the air temperature did not fall into frigid temperatures the change in pressure shut down the bite. This is how the tournament went, I met Nathan at 4:30 AM and we headed down to Walsh Landing to launch the boat. We ran up the lake just past the 360 bridge and started fishing at 6:00AM. I went with a buzz bait and Nathan threw a frog. I had one blow up on the buzz bait, but it never had the bait. We switched to spinner baits, rattle traps, & crank baits with no success. I hit a few spots that had all paid off in the past and nobody was home. About 11:30 we were working down the bank near the boy scout camp near 360 bridge and a school of bass pushed a ball of shad up to the surface. I would say there was no less than 10 bass in the school and I picked off one about 10 to 12 inches long before they scattered. We stayed in the area for another 30 minutes throwing a variety of baits, nothing else bit and they didn't come back to the surface. We moved over to the reeds out in front of that big wooden boat at the camp and managed to get my first keeper, 2.3 lbs on a watermelon brush hog. That was the only fish we got out of there. Next we moved down the lake toward some docks and picked up two more keepers and a short fish on the same lure. We killed a bunch time pretty much with little to show for our efforts. Very slow hard day of fishing in the wind, but at least we managed three keepers. We ended up in 3rd place with something like 5.5 lbs of bass. The winning team had 4 fish for just over 10 lbs. Congratulations to Dudley and Rick on the winning stringer.

Tournament in Review:

We caught fish on watermelon brushhogs rigged Texas style on a 1/4 oz weight. The fish were in 1 to 3 feet of water. We had 3 fish for a total of 5.5 lbs that put us in 3rd place. Fishing was extremely slow due to the changes in weather.
